Jeff Bezos, the billionaire responsible for Amazon, has gotten engaged. The first thing that you might ask is who this person is who will soon live the most lavish lifestyle imaginable. The next thing you might ask is if she’s marrying for money. We’ll cover all of that.
The lucky woman is Lauren Sanchez, a former news anchor and co-host of Good Day LA. She and Bezos went public with their relationship back in 2019, so it’s not as if either could be accused of rushing into things.
While the engagement actually took place in May of this year, there are more talk of wedding plans.
If you think Hollywood weddings are impressive, we can only expect this one to be completely over the top. After all, Bezos is one of the wealthiest Americans. Additionally, Sanchez has mentioned a girl’s trip to space – perhaps this will be her bachelorette party?
The two met through a number of shared interests as well as being at the same parties. When Sanchez was still married to Patrick Whitesell (A powerful Hollywood agent), the two attended a holiday party for Manchester by the Sea. That was in 2016, and she was photographed with her husband and Bezos.
Whitesell and Sanchez were on and off for a while. Eventually, things turned romantic between her and Bezos – and Whitesell was one of the first to learn of the relationship.
The relationship is definitely not about the money. Sanchez has spent the better part of her career around famous and influential people. She also shares a number of passions with Bezos, including their love for fighting climate change. In fact, a month after visiting Hawaii, the devastating wildfires hit Maui. They pledged $100 million to help the community.
We can only expect those kinds of generous donations to continue once the two are wed.
As for the wedding, they aren’t sure of when it will be or what the details of it will contain. Sanchez told Vogue last month, “Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months.”
Here’s what we do know. She plans on taking Bezos’ last name, which isn’t commonly done in those circles because of maintaining their established names. However, she shared, “one hundred percent. I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos.”
Considering the two got engaged on his superyacht worth $500 million and she’s wearing a 20-carat engagement ring estimated to have cost $2.5 million, you can count on a prenup agreement.
Both are successful in their own rights, though it’s obvious that Bezos would have a lot more to lose if the marriage ends up going south.
Bezos didn’t have a prenup in place with his first wife and it ended up costing him $38 billion. Now, at 59, he’ll definitely be looking to protect his assets – an estimated $140 billion fortune. She’s a multimillionaire on her own, though, and she’ll want to protect her assets as well.
It’s likely that the two will tie the knot in 2024, but they’re already building a life together. They own several properties together and they share a bodybuilder, which is why Bezos has ripped abs instead of the geeky persona he used to portray.
It seems that the two are good together, and we can’t see what the wedding will look like.
